He is a little over 2 years old, an Australian Shepherd–Labrador Retriever mix, and a medium-sized boy at around 56 lbs.     •    Weight: ~ 56 lbs     •    Health: Fully cleared after heartworm treatment     •    Training: Learns quickly; housebroken; improving on leash     •    Good with cats: Curious but respectful     •    Good with dogs: Friendly with dogs his age     •    Quirks: Suckles on bedding or clothing when calm; initially nervous at the vet His journey Chase was initially rescued in Texas after living as a stray who was regularly fed by Border Control Agents. He began showing up in a nearby neighborhood, and lucky for him, his current fosters gained his trust and brought him into rescue. Like many stray dogs, Chase tested positive for heartworms, but he has since completed treatment and is fully cleared. He has traveled from Texas to New York to North Carolina with his fosters and has enjoyed every bit of the adventure. Chase learned quickly that dog beds are cozy, chew toys are fun, and regular meals are pretty great. Though his personality blossomed into a happy, playful dog, he also showed a gentle, sensitive side. When he first arrived, everything was new: living indoors, walking on a leash, sleeping on a dog bed, playing with toys, even eating treats. He had never experienced any of it. Housebreaking came easily, but leash walking took more time — he would weave, circle, and tangle himself and his walker in a hilarious display of enthusiasm. He has bonded beautifully with his canine pack and gets along well with other dogs. He is fascinated by his foster’s daughter’s cat — eager to get close, but respectful when the cat prefers space. Meet Fable! This little lady might be on the smaller side, but her personality is not! From day one she has been feisty, vocal & independent. She LOVES to talk and play. Despite having a small body, she may think she is the size of a Rottweiler! With her foster family, she gives my 4 bigger dogs a run for their money! She loves to eat and snuggle with her foster mom's slippers so be ready to share! Her foster Mom also says that when she can't find her playing with her favorite toys or pals, she's normally in her closet napping in the clothes basket. Even though she is sassy at times, she is also sweet and loves to give kisses. She is also very smart so she will need mental stimulation as well as physical activity. Fable will be the perfect addition to anyone's family! She gets along with kids & all types of dogs. She is working on her house training but will use a puppy pad if needed. Her crate training is a work in progress, she is not a big fan of the kennel and she will let you know it, but she is slowly making progress. Meet Filet!! The only girl in the DeSoto Litter, Filet has made it very clear that she can hold her own with her brothers. Spunky, confident, and full of opinions, she isn't shy about letting everyone know when she wants attention or when she thinks cuddle time should start immediately. Filet is the most demanding when it comes to affection and would happily volunteer to be carried around all day if given the opportunity. Her feisty personality is paired with a loving, people-oriented nature that makes her impossible not to adore. Bottle-fed since one week old, Filet has grown up surrounded by human care and attention, helping shape her affectionate and social personality. Meet Glitter Enchanted Maddy—GEMs! GEMs is a gorgeous 5-month-old puppy who arrived in New England just a couple of weeks ago. After spending some time settling into foster care and learning the routines of family life, she is now officially available and ready to begin meeting potential adopters! Although both of her siblings have already found their forever homes, GEMs has not been waiting here for months. Her search in New England is only just beginning, and she is excited to find the family who will help her continue blossoming. GEMs is a striking black-and-white puppy with oversized ears, expressive eyes, and an adorable little freckle on her nose. She can initially be shy around unfamiliar people or in new environments, but she remains curious and will often greet people slowly with a wagging tail. She simply needs a little time and gentle encouragement before showing her full personality. Once she feels comfortable, GEMs is playful, affectionate, and wonderfully silly. She loves following her people around the house, cuddling on the couch, receiving attention, and being included in whatever her family is doing. She is also incredibly bouncy! GEMs hops, skips, and leaps after balls, jumps between couches, and loves pouncing into playtime with her foster sibling. Her favorite activities include chasing toys, chewing bones, playing with other dogs, going for long walks, and exploring places such as the beach. GEMs is extremely food motivated and is currently learning basic commands, including sit, down, and come. She does well with potty training when kept on a consistent schedule and has few to no accidents. She enjoys sleeping in her crate overnight and generally settles comfortably. She is still working on feeling secure when left alone and may initially vocalize before settling. She does especially well when another dog is nearby, so her future family should be prepared to continue building her confidence and independence gradually. GEMs enjoys playing with other dogs. She can occasionally become uncomfortable if another dog approaches her food or a high-value bone, so meals and special chews should be given separately while her family continues positive training. She has not displayed this behavior toward people or around regular toys. GEMs is curious and may try to chase small animals or other exciting things outdoors. Her family will need to use secure leash handling, carefully manage doors and gates, and keep her supervised outside while continuing recall training. This sweet girl would thrive with a patient and active family willing to continue her puppy training, confidence building, socialization, and daily exercise. Obedience classes would be a wonderful way to help her become the confident and well-mannered dog she is capable of being. She may enjoy living with a playful, compatible dog who can provide companionship, but she could also be successful as an only dog with a family committed to giving her plenty of attention and activity. While she has successfully lived and played with another dog in her foster home, introductions and management are important. Because of this, we believe shed thrive as an only dog where she can soak up all of the love and attention, or with an experienced adopter who understands dog behavior and can carefully manage a multi-dog household. Like many active young dogs, Sugar has plenty of playful energy. A previous leg injury doesn't slow her down one bit—she runs, jumps, plays, and enjoys life to the fullest. To keep her feeling her best, regular walks help strengthen her muscles, and her foster simply avoids repetitive, high-speed games of fetch that can make her limp more noticeable. She also eats from a slow feeder due to a sensitive stomach and receives an omega-3 supplement with dinner to keep her coat healthy after fully recovering from puppyhood mange. One thing to know about Sugar? Chickens are definitely not on her list of friends, so a home without poultry is a must! Sugar has made incredible progress thanks to the love and patience of her foster family. They absolutely adore her and know that the person who welcomes her home will be gaining a loyal best friend who will love them with her whole heart.
